Windows SharePoint Services Overview
Windows SharePoint Services enables your team to create web sites for information sharing and document collaboration, which are benefits that help increase individual and team productivity. Windows SharePoint Services is a service offered by The Message Center and provides team services and sites to Microsoft Office Systems and other desktop programs. It also serves as a platform for application development. With the IT resources provided (such as portals, team workspaces, e-mail, presence awareness, and Web-based conferencing), Windows SharePoint Services enables users to locate distributed information quickly and efficiently, as well as connect to and work with others more productively.
What will SharePoint look like?
Once set up for your account, SharePoint will be available from any web browser by going to http://[team.yourdomain.com]. There will be a set of templates that you are able to configure which vary dramatically. As high-level summary of SharePoint, think of SharePoint as a web site available only to your team for storing and sharing all of the documents. It is accessible via any web browser and Outlook too!
Can I have SharePoint without hosting my email with The Message Center?
Absolutely! The SharePoint domain name will default to team.yourdomain.com (you are able to use any subdomain you like) and you can control the users through the web based control panel.
What if we already have an Exchange server?
There will be no affect on your existing email service, as long as the subdomain that you use is different than the domain that you use for email.
Pricing for the hosted SharePoint service is clearly laid out for you..
